$8.9M was awarded in FY06 to eligible applicants that provided un-served areas with broadband transmission service that fosters economic growth and delivers enhanced education, health care, and public safety services.
$15M is available in FY07 - the focus is primarily on funding user equipment that operates via telecommunications to connect students and teachers or medical providers and patients at separate locations.
This program provides loans and loan guarantees to fund the cost of construction, improvement, or acquisition of facilities and equipment for the provision of broadband service in eligible rural communities.
