The purpose of the OSU Ag Econ Graduate Student Association (GSA) is to enhance intradepartmental relationships while facilitating the professional growth of graduate students. Formal functions of the GSA include representing views of the graduate students on graduate program issues, soliciting professional group memberships, and serving as a liaison to incoming students.

GSA sponsors a variety of social events to facilitate the relationships between students and faculty. GSA also sponsors a series of educational research seminars featuring professionals from the OSU Ag Econ department, other OSU agricultural departments, and the agricultural economics academic community.

Meetings

GSA meetings are the primary vehicle for disseminating information to all graduate students. They are held on the last Friday of every month throughout the academic year. Meetings include GSA officer reports, updates on upcoming events, and then an informational session that is designed to benefit the graduate student educational experience.

Departmental Events

Fall Events

New Graduate Student Orientation

New students will be introduced to the graduate program curriculum and students on assistantship will complete the necessary paperwork for payroll. GSA officers also offer to take new students on a tour of campus and to lunch at a local eatery.

Graduate Student Reception
Come have cookies and punch while meeting your fellow graduate students and Ag Econ department faculty.

GSA Welcome Back Social
Enjoy a night of fun, food, and fellowship with Ag Econ graduate students and faculty at one of Stillwater’s most famous dining establishments! Families are welcome to join.

Research Seminars
Research seminars occur at the beginning of each fall semester and give new students an opportunity to learn more about our faculty and research opportunities in the department. These seminars are designed to assist students as they begin the process of finding an advisor.

Departmental Fall Picnic
Ag Econ departmental faculty host an annual picnic. Graduate students and their families are welcome to join this event. Faculty members supply all of the food and drinks.

GSA Annual Football Picks Contest
For the past few years, the Graduate Student Association has organized an NCAA football picking contest, where we guess the outcome of games all across the nation. This contest is just for fun but always makes football game days more interesting!

GSA International Dinner
GSA is proud to represent students from several states and countries. This potluck dinner is designed to help us learn about different cultures while introducing us to some new types of cuisine! Bring a dish from your home state, country, or culture.

Aggie-X Tailgate
Each year the Ag Econ undergraduate club “Aggie-X” hosts a tailgate prior to one of the OSU football games. Faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduate students, alumni, family and friends are welcome to join the festivities. Aggie-X will supply food and drinks. Go Pokes!

Spring Events

GSA Welcome Back Social
As we embark on a new semester after the holiday season, enjoy a night of fun, food, and fellowship with Ag Econ graduate students and faculty at one of Stillwater’s most famous dining establishments! Families are welcome to join.

GSA March Madness
As the NCAA basketball season comes to a close, graduate students and faculty who wish to participate fill out brackets to see who can best predict the road to the national championship. Again, this is just for fun, with the winner only receiving the satisfaction of having the most “basketball knowledge” (a.k.a. luck)!

Ag Econ Hooding Ceremony
The Departmental Hooding Ceremony is a time for us to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our classmates who are graduating. The ceremony is open to all friends and family who wish to attend.

Other Activities

Intramural Sports
Flag football, basketball, soccer, dodgeball, inner tube water polo, etc…if you are interested in playing any sport, chances are we can put a team together!
